In our post-modern culture, many people have lost sight of foundational truth and its significance in the life of the church. Consequently, doctrinal truth about God may be neglected or deemed unimportant in worship. At Heritage, we take seriously the pursuit of God through building upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, which is the truth centered in Jesus Christ the Chief Cornerstone. The Lord revealed the importance of truth when he told Pontius Pilate that He came into the world to "bear witness to the truth" (John 18:37). In short, Jesus died to declare the truth of His Father’s righteousness by justifying sinners through the blood of His cross. Our articles of faith set forth a concise declaration of man’s fallen condition and the freedom of God’s redemptive plan to glorify Himself through the salvation of sinners. As Paul taught Titus, this foundational truth about God’s grace must be affirmed confidently so that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works (Titus 3:8). Since good works are designed by God to reveal His glory (Matthew 5:16), the doctrines that we affirm are vitally connected to the glory good works reveal. |
